Philip is a permanent resident of, and the inspiration behind, fish rescue Friends of Philip. He was found sickly and neglected at a pet store when the founder of Friends of Philip was able to convince the store manager to give this poor thin betta fish a second chance at life. Philip helps his rescue guardians bring the plight of fish and other sea creatures into the conversation to prove that with proper care, fish can live full and happy lives.
